Nousbo Controlled Release Fertilizers
for climate-smart agriculture

In the last century, fertilizers have greatly improved crop production, letting farmers grow more crops to meet the rising needs of the population. However, excessive fertilization resulted in nutrient inefficiencies and excessive losses of N and P, causing the increase in greenhouse gas emissions, which eventually impacted environment quality, human health and biodiversity. According to European Green Deal, it’s required to reduce greenhouse gas emissions towards 50-55% compared with 1990 levels by 2030. This goal can be achieved by reduction of the use of fertilizers by at least 20% by 2030, resulting in cutting of nutrient losses by at least 50%. Controlled release fertilizers (CRFs) are a good alternative to soluble fertilizers in order to increase nitrogen usage efficiency and minimize nutrient losses in the field environment. By using CRFs the nutrients can release to the soil at a controlled rate and provide sufficient amount of nutrients for crop production. Due to the slow release of fertilizer, a large amount of application will not lead to excessive soil salinity or "burn seedlings", thus the negative effect on the environment is reduced, compared with conventional fertilizer.

Nousbo CRF is a fertilizer in the form of granules coated with polymer that can control the rate, pattern and duration of plant nutrient release. Compared to conventional fertilizers, requiring multiple-time application, CRFs are making possible a one-time application, thereby reducing environmental pollution and labor. Nousbo CRFs can reduce the amount of fertilizer use by more than 70% compared to existing fertilizers, therefore preventing soil salinization and water pollution. The fertilizer efficiency is long-term, stable and continuously supplies nutrients for the entire growing period. Nousbo produces both : Homogeneous type of CRF, which one grain contains all NPK and trace elements, as well as a single nutrient type of CRF, which each granule includes Polymer Coated Urea, MAP or MOP. It’s possible to produce any formula for varying temperature and moisture level up to 360 days.

Nutrient release mechanism of the Nousbo CRF is as follows : once fertilizer is applied in the soil, water penetrates into the granules and dissolves nutrients, which are later gradually released into the soil. The coating material controls water penetration and availability of nutrients in forms preferred by plants and helps in maximizing crop yields.

Nousbo developed CRF technology that can reduce the loss of nutrients and increase their efficiency with a single time of fertilizer application and succeeded in launching the product in 2019. Compared to other CRFs manufacturers, Nousbo has world-class Sigmoid type fertilizer production technology. Sigmoid type fertilizer’s coating technology allows for suppression of the early release of nutrients, thus preventing seed damage caused by nitrogen. Compared to existing fertilizers, this technology allows to achieve advantageous effects such as reduction of fertilizer amount and labor and improvement of the crop quality, so it is becoming popular in rural areas that have recently experienced a severe labor shortage. At the same time, Nousbo fertilizers can be produced in the form that allows the constant release of nutrients from beginning to end, which is known as Linear type of release.

Nousbo supports European Green Deal by reducing fertilizer rate up to 70%, increasing nutrient use efficiency, reducing nutrient losses by leaching and volatilization, therefore helping to reduce environmental pollution and at the same time improving crop’s yield.
